Broaden your horizons

Yesterday we considered the benefits of solitary exercise. Today we will look at exercising as a group or part of a team. Exercise can be your saviour at any point of your life and at different times you may have changing requirements. For instance, if you move to a new area then a team sport may be your thing but if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of life, then a solitary bike ride might be your choice . upside to exercising with others :

The upside of Exercising with others :

  • Builds your social circle - if you choose a sport that interests you and you join a club or a team, then you instantly are introduced to others who have at least one thing in common with you and are likely to be potential friends . It is much easier to connect with new people while doing a shared activity so you always have a topic of conversation to fall back on

  • Conversely, you can meet people that you wouldn't normally rub shoulders with - Sport brings you together and if you are tired of the same topics at the water fountain in the office every day then starting a sporting hobby will bring you in front of different people from different backgrounds, ages and perspectives.

  • Teamwork can be character building - Observing the team member who can de-escalate a potential conflict or taking on the task of motivating your team when the going gets tough, gives you the opportunity to try out new skills and become a more well rounded person.

  • Exercising with friends holds you accountable - you are more likely to pitch up for your afternoon walk on a rainy, gloomy day if you have arranged to meet your friend on the way and she is looking forward to it .

  • Social exercising can stimulate you to push yourself more than you thought possible once you see others achieving exercise goals that you aspire towards.

  • Laughing - I am sure some of your best times were with family or friends really enjoying each other and laughing at the events of the afternoon and reminiscing about last weeks challenging game.

  • Serving others - playing your part to contribute to the success of the group or feeling like you have something to offer , is a real boost to self esteem and confidence.

Educate- Flexible Friday

We have a theme for each day focusing on balance, strength, flexibility and co-ordination. Click the button to do the exercises together. The exercises take as long as it takes for your kettle to boil. Do them each time you make yourself a cuppa and you will already have done a third of your exercise for the day if you boil the kettle 4 times.
